Two Underutilized Social Media Platforms Businesses Should Try Right Away

When it comes to social media marketing, Facebook and Twitter seem to be the gold standard.

According to blogging and social media expert, John Paul Aguiar, though, there are two social media platforms that aren’t used by businesses often enough.

During our conversation, John Paul explained why these platforms are great options and provided my listeners with a few ways to successfully use them.

2 Underutilized Social Media Platforms That Can Put You in Front of Your Target Audience

According to John Paul, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn should definitely be utilized by business owners. But there are some other social media sites that might prove to be a valuable addition to your social media marketing campaign: Reddit and Quora.

Why Quora Could Be the Best Thing to Happen to Your Business

Isn’t Quora just a Q&A site? That’s the main purpose of the site, but it can be used effectively for marketing. In fact, John Paul said that Quora “kills it” and that he’s been using it for years.

The thing he likes about it is that you can set up a blog on your Quora profile, so all your new posts go there. Another perk is that, because it is a Q&A site, Google is alerted when you post an answer. So, it’s a great way to improve SEO and get backlinks.

How can you use this site successfully?

First – answer questions. If your answer is awesome, people are going to follow you to your blog. All you really need is one fantastic answer. If you get a lot of interest based on your answer, you can add something like, “If you want to learn more about this, check out our latest blog post.”

The second step is to set up a blog in your profile. When you write a new blog post, add a one or two-line snipped, along with a direct link to your blog post.

Use Reddit – But Use It Thoughtfully

John Paul praised Reddit ads. You can post an ad in a subreddit and it will be seen by a ton of people. And because people on Reddit are used to the ads now, they don’t really mind when they pop up – as long as you engage with them.

To do this, John Paul recommends using the ad like an introduction: “Hi, I’m so-and-so, and I sell such-and-such. If you’d like to check it out, click the link.”

One thing you don’t want to do, though, is post a link to your blog post or website sales page in the comments of Reddit. This will annoy the regulars. Use the ads – that’s what they’re used to and what they’ll respond to.

A common and successful method is to combine Reddit marketing with video marketing to increase brand awareness.

Going Outside the Normal Social Media Platform Box for Success

If you haven’t had as much success with the usual social media platforms as you would like, going outside of your box and trying something new might be the way to go.

Test the waters of Reddit and Quora, monitor the results, and see if adding these two sources can become tools that will help your business grow.
